The day is here!

September 7th is finally here.  Like when we used to want Christmas to be here all year long and then FINALLY - it was here.  Today is like Christmas Eve - tomorrow Christmas.  I have not been able to sleep.  I keep counting time to determine where she is and what she might be doing at this exact moment.

I know right now that she is sitting at Barcelona, Spain airport waiting to board a plane!  The ship is gone and she is there by herself!  No backup!  I am worried, yet have to be assured by her new found travel savvy to be able to get where she needs to be when she needs to be there!  That will still never stop a mother from worrying.

I will sleep when she is safely tucked in her bed in the basement of her home.  Her Kentucky home!  Gods speed and hand on your travels Whytney.  I will pray for a smooth and safe trip!

Monday, September 6th - A DAY AWAY!

One day!  So hard to believe that it is just one day and the LAST sea day.  Again a busy day, for more than just work.  Whytney is attempting to get all of her stuff packed and off to security by the end of the day to be prepared to leave the ship on time!

I know that this has been a struggle for her and a challenge.  I sure hope that she is able to handle three suitcases, a carry on, and a purse at the airport in Barcelona.

I was finally able to make her reservations in Dublin - I spoke to a couple of Irishmen in the process!  Such a great accent!  I hope she enjoys the hotel that I have put her in - they sound so nice and accommodating.

I am nervous about her return trip.  It will take her so long to get home - I hope that she is able to endure the long trip and still maintain her enthusiasm once she gets home.

Safe travels Whytney!

Sunday, September 5th and the countdown winds down!

2 MORE DAYS!  She will be off of the ship in two days - so funny that two days typically would sound like a very short time - however, it seems endless.

This is Whytney's LAST port day in Naples, Italy.  I don't know if she will be able to get off or will want to get off of the ship.  I hope that she has been able to enjoy this last cruise.  I believe that she has been able to get pampered today with some spa services.  So nice - I am sure that will be missed.

Still cleaning and planning "feast" preparations for the Welcome Home party.  I am trying to get all of the foods that she has missed so much.  The number one thing that she has asked for is a .97 cent Duncan Hines yellow cake with Whipped Birthday Confetti Icing.  Check!  Only, I have to admit that since she has left the .97 cent cake mix is now $1.16.  I guess she will figure that out eventually.  Also, lots of grilled chicken, steak, shrimp, hashbrown casserole and never forget the pumpkin pie!

What a feast and celebration it will be - only a few more rooms to clean as the last weekend winds down!

Saturday, September 4th the last weekend begins

Whytney is now at the last weekend of her cruise contract.  I can only imagine the anticipation and excitement.  I, admittedly will be brief with the next(last) few blog posts!  You guys have heard it all and now it is time to prepare for the impending homecoming.

She is at sea today - a relatively busy day.  I am sure that today is no different.  Probably a good thing that she keeps herself busy today or she might just explode. I know that I am having a difficult time being patient.

The preparations are being made to accommodate her comfort once she returns home.  Her bedroom is now constructed with her old furniture. The walk in closet is cleaned out ready for her clothes.  The house is on its way to being cleaned beyond recognition!  I think that I am attempting to keep myself busy as well.

I only hope that she will be as excited to be home as the thoughts of being home!???

Croatia for the last time!

It is a warm 84 degrees today in Split, Croatia for Whytney's last day here.  Much like our temperature here in Kentucky.  It is a Friday and Whytney only has 4 days left in her 9 month contract.  I can only imagine the excitement that she is feeling!

I don't believe that she will be able to get off of the ship today.  But, Split is an amazingly beautiful place.

This view of the coastline would be enough for me to enjoy from the deck of the ship.  I am positive that Whytney has plenty of packing to do to try to fit ALL of her stuff into two pieces of luggage that will weigh LESS than 50 lbs.!  Good luck on that one!

4 more long days to go....

September 2nd and the LAST day in Venice!

Whytney has now started the countdown to home with 5 days remaining!  And one last goodbye to Venice for now.  I know that she has enjoyed the overnight stays in Venice.  I hope that she is able to get something good to eat when she is ported in Venice.

I spoke to her on the phone a couple of days ago and she was listing several foods that she wanted me to fix.  It seems as though really good food is difficult to find on the ship.  So, if she goes to Venice to grab a bite, here are some suggestions that come highly recommended:
(adapted from www.goitaly.about.com )

La Cantina, Campo San Felice near the Ca D'oro vaperetto stop. There's no written menu but all the food is freshly selected from the market that day. Francesco works his magic on a single burner and Andrea chooses only the most delicious regional wines for your tasting pleasure.

Al Leon D'Oro, Rio Terra della Maddalena, serves more traditional dinners. The nonna who cooks your supper makes you feel like you are a part of her extended family.

Acqua Pazza, Campo S. Angelo, has an outside patio and JoAnn loves their gelato for dessert. Actually, it is blasphemous, however she is not a typical gelato eater. Only this gelato she loves—served in a faberge fruit egg with a demitasse spoon to scoop out the frozen delicacy.

Bea Vita, Fondamente delle Cappuccine 3082, is a very small, newer restaurant. JoAnn recommends the duck antipasto, fish carpaccio, and the flaming tiramisu for dessert.

Osteria al Ponte del Diavolo on Torcello Island, a green island where you can see incredible mosaics in the 7th century Cathedral of Santa Maria Dell'Assunta. Bring a sketchpad and be prepared to listen to silence.

Il Nero Gatto is on Venice's colorful Burano Island. Bring your water colors with the most vibrant palette of colors.

5 more days and 5 too many!

September 1st and the last overnight in VENICE!

Whytney is in Venice, Italy and six days left.  She is here overnight; occasionally when she is her (without a day off), she is able to go off of the ship to eat and walk around at night.  These two days (today and tomorrow) will be the last two in Venice for Whytney.  She will be in Naples, for her last visit to Italy on Sunday, September 5th.

She will be seeing LOTS of water when in Venice - since the city is built on the water.  It would make me very nervous.  They do have frequent flooding in their city streets.  Not devastating floods such as we have recently experienced, however, flooding just the same.  They have had a couple of historically nasty floods - not too recently.

She might be able to see:
Or, maybe:

Or at sunset, maybe this:

With 6 days to go, Whytney will be enjoying everything that she sees because she knows that soon she will be seeing home!
