Ephesus, Turkey

Whytney is in Ephesus, Turkey today - not a day off, however, I hear that she had a great day yesterday - she was able to visit The Olive Oil Shop, get a sunburn on the beach, sleep, and read more in her book. I guess today it is "back to work"!

Ephesus is the most well preserved Roman city in this region. They are many reasons why you might enjoy seeing this city. St. Paul's "Letter to the Ephesians", found in the New Testament, were written to the citizens of Ephesus. There are also many who believe that the Virgin Mary may have lived her last years in Ephesus. There is a cottage (Meryemana) that has been rebuilt that is said to have been her last home. Also, it is believed that St. John wrote his Gospel in Ephesus and has been buried in the St. John Basilica. LOTS of history!

Eating in Ephesus is always an enjoyable experience. One of the local specialties is Cipura fish. This is best served with a fresh green salad and olive oil sprinkled with herbs. There are additional options, other that seafood; kofte, breadcrumbs, onion juice, pepper and salt, minced meat - shaped into balls and fried is another popular dish. I am getting hungry!

Hopefully, Whytney will be able to visit this historic city at some point during her next 67 days....that is right! 67 days to go!

I know that Whytney would have enjoyed being with us yesterday as we visited Beech Bend Park. Such a wonderful day, not reaching more that 84 degrees - perfect tanning weather! Very low crowds made it such a great day to visit the park; no lines to wait in and nice pools with plenty of seating! Gram had a great time too!

Back home again and limited internet! It is nice to watch Caddie Jo in her yard - she loves it so much....No Place Like Home! I know that Whytney can relate to that.
