August 10, 2010

28 days to go and the first day of school - for me and Kendall, that is!  I am so excited that we are now in the twenties and less than a month away from Whytney's return to the USA!  Today, she is in Split, Croatia and will probably be staying on the ship since she was just recently off in Venice.

Splicani are what the locals are called in Split.  They are very "sports oriented".  Soccer is their sport of choice.  The Splicanians are also known for their loves of nature, singing and good food and drink.

A couple of NBA players actually call Split their hometown; from the Boston Celtics, Dino Radja and from the Chicago Bulls, Toni Kukoc.

When in Split, you may encounter a unique game called picign.  This is commonly played on Bacvice Beach.  It requires a small  ball, usually five players and the shallow water of the sea (I suppose any shallow water would do - if the sea is unavailable).  The object is to keep the ball in the air for as long as you can.  You pass to other players and you can use any part of your body to accomplish this. The game is not to see who can win or lose, but to see who can relax and have the most fun possible!

Hopefully, even from the ships deck, Whytney will be able to see the beautiful countryside and beach that Split has to offer.
