July 31 in Naples, Italy

38 DAYS to go!!!  Whytney is in Naples today and it just seems as if the days are flying by.  Probably because school is getting ready to start.  Usually the end of summer flies by.  This year, I do not care.  That just means that I am closer to seeing Whytney.

Today started as usual with my thoughts to my daughter Whytney.  Wondering if she would have an opportunity to go out and experience Naples again.  Quickly, real life set in and there were responsibilities to deal with.  This morning was pleasant because we had family here.  Alton, son Jason, and Jason's son, Zander got here late last night.  We would be able to spend a little time over breakfast before they hit the road headed for more family time in Bowling Green.  After a helping of bacon, eggs and waffles, a little clean up, and some conversation; they headed out and we got on with our day.

I went to the grocery only to come home to a dead microwave.  Alas, after 13 years, the death of an old friend.  A proper burial should be in order for its generous preparation of late night popcorn and quick pick me ups for a screaming stomachs!  A definite challenge to find a countertop microwave to fit in a cabinet unit.  After a late trip to HHGregg in Lexington, we were able to find another Whirlpool in stainless steel and thinking it was the same size, it was loaded in the truck.  Almost midnight, unpacking a microwave setting it in the cabinet only to find that even though the dimensions are the same, the surround for the cabinet does NOT fit!  Plan B is yet to be contemplated!

Enough with my humdrum household details and on with my lovely daughter and her exciting travels.  Naples, capital city of the Campania region of Italy and the second most populated area in Italy.  Naples offers its residents and tourists many breathtaking sights and rich history.

If your romantic vision includes castles with moats, Naples is for you.  You will find a very imposing castle with such a moat in Naples; Maschio Angioino.  Built in 1282, it is embellished with a triumphal arc that faces town.  That must be a beautiful sight to see each day.

If you are in to grand interiors, look at the Galleria Umberto I.  From the zodiac mosaic on the floor to the 184 ft arching dome, it offers a lot of interesting architectural details for the senses. The  glass roofed arcade was started in 1887 and is thought to be one of the largest in the world.  Unfortunately, it has lost favor in the sight of its locals and you will find it deserted much of the time.  I think that it is pretty spectacular.

If nothing else, hopefully Whytney will be able to see the Port of Naples guardian.  A castle that stands strong to guard its land, Piazza del Municipio.  I would hope that she would be able to view this luminous castle from the deck of the ship.  Just thinking that she could, makes me very envious of her position.  Not only to see a castle in real life - I cannot imagine being able to explore a "real live castle"!  Ahhhh, maybe one day!

Day 38 will come to a close and Whytney will look forward to the last sea day in this cruise. The last sea day is usually a busy one. Enjoy each day of this amazing journey Whytney!
